I did it, after already passing CKA
and CKAD, I completed the trifecta
today by passing the CKS: Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist as well. Taking and passing all three within one Month was
challenging, at some point a little stressful, but very rewarding and satisfying!

As mentioned in the CKA
and CKAD, post already,
no real problems with PSI, everything went quite smooth again, nothing to complain about.

The Exam was, as expected, on a whole other level compared to CKA and CKAD. The requirement to take the CKS is to hold an active
CKA, which you going to need. All the additional knowledge you have to gain about various security tools and best-practices is massive.
But also extremely valuable, preparing for the Exam and diving deep into Kubernetes security made me realize how many attack vectors are
out there I wasn't even thinking of so far. For me it was an eye opener and I'm glad I decided to tackle all three exams, I learned
more in a month as I did on my own within the last year.

I took some Red Hat Exams in 2021 and loved the fact that they are also performance-based, I'm three specialist certifications short
to become a Red Hat Certified Architect, so I guess some Red Hat OpenShift Certifications are next on my list :)

Summary: Earners of this designation are accomplished Kubernetes practitioners (as evidenced by holding the CKA credential).
Earners demonstrated the requisite abilities to secure container-based applications and Kubernetes platforms during build,
deployment and runtime, and are qualified to perform these tasks in a professional setting.

And the next one, after passing the CKA
a week ago, I cleared CKAD: Certified Kubernetes Application Developer today, which makes two out of three, next stop CKS!

I wrote a bit about the experience with PSI already last week in the CKA Post, it was very similar this week, swift check-in process,
quite relaxed proctor, no real technical issues with the exam environment, my setup was exactly the same.

From an Exam perspective it was really cool to dive deep into different deployment scenarios, how to configure and troubleshoot them,
gave me even more confidence with Kubernetes and using
kubectl
. In hindsight, it would've probably better to take the CKAD before
the CKA Exam. Now that I know what's covered and how the Exams are, that feels like a more logical order, CKAD is overall a little easier as CKA.

It was again performance-based, as all Kubernetes Exam from The Linux Foundation, and I can't get enough of it. This type of exam is just so
much more fun, engaging and challenging as question-based ones. From that perspective I'm a little sad that I only have one other Exam ahead.

I'm now going to prepare for the Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS), after all I heard, that's a complete different beast compared to
CKA and CKAD. Let's see if I can make it in two weeks and how different it really will be.

Summary: Earners of this designation demonstrated the skills, knowledge and competencies to perform the responsibilities of a
Kubernetes Application Developer. Earners are able to define application resources and use core primitives to build, monitor,
and troubleshoot scalable applications and tools in Kubernetes. The skills and knowledge demonstrated by earners include Core
Concepts, Configuration, Multi-Container Pods, Observability, Pod Design, Services & Networking, State Persistence.

My goal is to get all three Kubernetes Certifications from The Linux Foundation (CKA, CKAD, CKS),
today I started this journey by passing the first Exam (CKA) and becoming a CKA: Certified Kubernetes Administrator.

It's the first performance-based exam since almost two years and I have to admit, I missed it!
For whatever reason, it became standard in the industry to go with question-based exams instead.
I understand that those are easier to deliver and might even attract more people, but in my opinion,
demonstrating real Hands-On experience during an Exam is way more valuable and requires a lot of practice.

Don't get me wrong, every Exam has it's values, there is not a single one I took were I not learned something new during preparation.
But at least for me, I gained the deepest level of understanding and the most real world experience from practical exams.

I did a lot with Kubernetes before and of course knew already much about it, but preparing for the CKA Exam gave me a massive boost
in my
kubectl
skills and pushed my knowledge about all the different components and how to interact with objects to a new level.
Personally, I never felt that comfortable with Kubernetes before and can recommend the CKA to everyone who works with Kubernetes.

A lot of people complain about the Exam provider PSI and the exam environment, especially the PSI secure browser, it's poor performance
and a bad experience with the proctors. For me things went actually very well, I used the MacBook Pro M1 with an external 27" Monitor,
external Webcam (Logitech C925e), wired Keyboard and Mouse. As per policy, the MacBook was closed during the Exam, before I launched
the PSI secure browser I connected all external devices and closed the lid. Monitor and Webcam were recognized as expected, scan of my
ID was no problem with the Logitech Webcam. I have another Monitor on my desk, which I unplugged and turned around. I removed anything else
(e.g. smartphone charger, pens, paper). The proctor was fine with the external monitor that way, I showed my whole desk, in more detail the
region below keyboard, mouse and macbook. I have some stickers on my macbook and had to zoom in to show that there are no notes or something.
Then the rest of my room, the walls, ceiling, below my desk and so on. All this went fine, no complains from the proctor, I just followed
the instructions and was ready to take the exam after around 15 minutes, which is a good time and comparable to PearsonVUE and Questionmark.
Also the actual exam environment, remote desktop delivered through the PSI secure browser, was working without much issues. I had a few times
a brief "lag" and the sticky key problem - you press a key once and it gets repeated multiple times, hitting k becomes kkkkkkkkkk for example -
but most of the time I could use the environment just the same way as I would run the commands on my local machine.

So my recommendations in regards to PSI: Ensure the computer you use has a supported operating system and enough cpu/ram resources.
Keep your desk clean as good as possible but don't worry too much about if there are still some cables or a second monitor, just ensure
that the proctor can clearly see that it's impossible for you to use. Follow the instructions of the Proctor, arguing will not help even
if they might ask "stupid questions", just answer, explain what something is or what it's used for and show it in the camera, everything
will be fine. Check your internet connectivity, in my case it's a 400mbit up/down fibre connection which did great, just ensure you have
some bandwidth and that not the rest of the household is streaming Netflix in 4k in parallel ;). Last but not least, focus on your monitor and
don't look around too much, that's something the PSI system will otherwise recognized and trigger the proctor, worst case they close your Exam.

Summary: Earners of this designation demonstrated the skills, knowledge and competencies to perform the responsibilities
of a Kubernetes Administrator. Earners demonstrated proficiency in Application Lifecycle Management, Installation,
Configuration & Validation, Core Concepts, Networking, Scheduling, Security, Cluster Maintenance,
Logging / Monitoring, Storage, and Troubleshooting

Today was finally the day I passed the second Exam 202-450 and became LPIC-2 certified.
I passed the first Exam, 201-450 already in October 2019, but failed the second one.

Then life happened, other personal and professional priorities, finishing the LPIC-2 was long time
on my list but I never actually did it. Last year on Cyber Monday I bought the Voucher to "force"
me to get it done this year.

I was on vacation for two weeks and used some of this time to prepare for the Exam, which was even
harder as I remembered it, and passed this time with a decent score. The resources I used to Study:

The LPIC2 Exam Prep (open source)

LPIC-2 Study Guide (Wiley / Sybex, ISBN: 978-1-119-15079-4)

Cert Guide LPIC-2 (Pearson IT Certification, ISBN-13: 978-0-7897-5714-2))

They are all good in their own way and teach a lot about the different topics, but without
reading through man pages and official docs, by memorizing CLI tools and parameter as well as
the syntax of all the involved config files, in addition to those books, it's not possible to pass.

The Exam Questions are hard and mostly very in-depth what they are asking and expect you to know.

When I started to Study, people asked me why, I already have a lot of Linux related
certifications and many years of experience. First it was something I started years ago and didn't
finished, which felt wrong. Second, it's now a container and cloud world out there, but "classic"
Linux administrator knowledge, like Bind, LDAP, Samba, Postfix or Dovecot, is still valuable.

Preparing for the Exam helped me to brush up my knowledge, I didn't used some of the tools in years,
but it was great to build and configure something without automation or containers. I'm sure I can
reuse a lot of these knowledge and transfer it into "the new world" as well.

Summary: The LPIC-2 validates the candidate’s ability to administer small to medium–sized mixed networks.

Back at 100% after passing SCDS in SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 today.
Right now, I'm holding all available SUSE Certifications, a milestone I reached
the first time in November 2022. I'm proud about it and plan to keep up with whatever
Certification SUSE is going to release next :)

This one was also very special for me because SUSE invited me as BETA tester
for the Exam and I had the opportunity to provide feedback, which was used to further
improve the questions and answers before the official release at SUSECON 23 in Munich.

Summary: Knowledge and understanding of various deployment methods and techniques,
including manual deployment, automated installation using AutoYaST, image-based
deployment using KIWI and deployment on public cloud platforms.

First day at SUSECON 23 in Munich, first Exam passed: SCA in SUSE NeuVector 5.
During SUSECON, event attendees can take SUSE Exams live on-site, I still had three on my Bucket list and
prepared for all of them during the last weeks. Today I can remove the SCA in SUSE NeuVector 5 from the list,
I will try the SCDS in Rancher Kubernetes Engine 2 tomorrow and SCDS in Rancher Manager 2.7 for Rancher Prime
the day after, fingers crossed.

Summary: Fundamental knowledge of using SUSE NeuVector Management Console and command line utilities to
perform administrative tasks after the actual SUSE NeuVector 5 deployment. Configuration and management
tasks included are for example scanning images and compliance, as well as managing runtime security for
containerized applications. Runtime security provides real time security management for processes,
files, and network traffic.

Here comes another one, SCDS in SUSE NeuVector 5 cleared today.
It's my third SUSE Enterprise Container Management related Certification, the first one in the Security field.
As always, preparing for an Exam is my motivation to dive deep and to learn more about a specific topic,
I could learn without an attached Exam, but I have to admit, it would be harder for me to stay on course and reach my goal.

In my current Job I work closely with SUSE to further improve the customer experience of Rancher and NeuVector on AWS,
investing time to improve my skills and learn as much as possible about the solutions is a logical step and I enjoy it.

Summary: Knowledge and understanding of the various deployment methods of SUSE NeuVector, including the use of YAML files,
Helm Charts, and Config Map settings, both during and after deployment.

Proud to be SCE in SLES for SAP 15 number 166, after passing the two necessary Exams today.
It's the first time SUSE requires two Exams to get certified and they were really tough ones.
Tackling the SCA+ in SLES for SAP 12
and SCA+ in SLES High Availability
last year as well as previous SAP NetWeaver and HANA
experience definitely helped, but still, these both are the hardest SUSE Exams I took so far.
I also decided to take both Exams in a row, means 3 hours with 140 Questions, very intensive,
I would probably do it again, but not recommend to others doing it like that ;)

But as much I like SUSE, I have the impression that the quality of the Training Material but also Exams drops.
For example, the courses to prepare for the Exam are based on different SLES 15 versions, which leads to situations
where in Course A you learn about a specific version of a tool just to basically learn the opposite, caused by a new release, in Course B.
Also during the Exam lot of questions where just not clear in what is asked for, more than once it was just guessing.

Such things can happen, but I would love to see a little increase in content Quality in future.

Other than that, the Exam isn't only single or multiple choice anymore, there are input fields where you have to
fill in a command including all parameter to solve a problem. There are also screenshots from command output or
web / gui interfaces and you have to place a marker on the right place depending on the question, for example on the
line that provides you a specific information in a CLI output.

I like that there are some more variations but asking commands including arguments isn't that beneficial in my personal opinion.
I'm in the industry my whole life and looking up exact syntax and parameter in the docs and man pages is something I still do all the time.
If you want to test commands, I suggest provide a practical Exam and to let the Student build something in a real environment under real conditions,
including the availability of the standard documentation ;)

Anyway, I passed, with a Score of 84% in part 1 and 86% in part 2, solid numbers given the difficulty of the Exam, the passing score is 70%.

Overall I still can recommend the SUSE Courses and Exam, they might not perfect but can help you to improve
your Skills a lot! And that's at the end good for yourself, your career, the company you working for and most important: Your Customers.

I completed the AWS Associate Trifecta by passing the third Exam and becoming an
AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate today. I'm very proud about
getting all three Associate Certifications within one month, preparing for them
boosted my AWS knowledge and provides massive value in my job.

Again I just kept it simple, focused on Hands-On Labs from
A Cloud Guru and the
eBook
as well as Practice Exam
from Tutorials Dojo. The content overlap between the Solutions Architect, Developer Exam and SysOps Administrator is quite large,
I guess it's around 60%, also a lot of questions can be answered with common IT knowledge and understanding,
I recommend to not overthinking it, trust you and your experience, focus on topics you have some gaps and just go for it.

Continuing my AWS Journey and on my way to get the Associate Trifecta, I passed the AWS Certified Developer - Associate

During my AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate
preparation, I wasted too much time with "the wrong" training resources. This time I just used the
eBook
and Practice Exam
from Tutorials Dojo. The content overlap between the Solutions Architect and Developer Exam is in my opinion around 60%,
also a lot of concepts are not specific to AWS but about development in general, so no need to enter the tutorial hell
and learn the same things over and over again ;)

Becoming a AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate is part of my On-boarding at AWS, but I would do it either way ;)

I passed the Exam today after around three weeks preparation, with a couple of hours studying per day. That I already took the
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Exam in July,
before it was even clear that I will become an Amazonian, helped a lot and saved quite some time.
It's not mandatory to take the Cloud Practitioner first, but I highly recommend it.

I tried a lot of learning resources, actually too much, after some frustrating experiences with (expensive)
online courses and a lot of wasted time I suggest: Keep it simple!

You don't need multiple courses and AWS SkillBuilder offers already a lot of good and free content, like
Solutions Architect Learning Plan.
I also found the eBook
and Practice Exam
from Tutorials Dojo very helpful, that's already enough learning material to pass the Exam.

Important: First the Trainings, then (or in parallel if you want) the eBook, then the practice exams.
Don't start with the practice exams and don't do them over and over again, you would just start to memorize the answers
but to pass the Exam it's important to understand the actual concept.

Last but not least, I played AWS Cloud Quest which for sure also had a positive impact in my understanding and Hands-On experience.
I guess it's just hard to measure how large the influence was, but either way, it was fun and if you have the time, just start playing and enjoy it.

Everyone is talking about SUSE NeuVector, I though it's time to learn more
about it so I took the Sales and Technical Sales Course and passed the Exam.

To get a first Overview about features and functionality,
that's always a good starting point.

I have to admit, I was impressed about the NeuVector approach to work on
the Network Layer and use those data as source of truth.

That's extremely different as anything else I saw in that area yet, can't wait
to roll it out in my Kubernetes Clusters.

Next step on my Cloud Journey completed by passing the AZ-104 Exam, it was a tough one but still fair and
a great basis to build further Azure knowledge on top. It's also a mandatory pre-requirement to
become a Azure Solution Architect, which is on my bucket list for end of August / begin of September.

Similar as for AZ-900,
there are a lot of great and mostly even free resources out their to prepare for AZ-104, my favorites:

Microsoft Learning, AZ-104 Exam Overview,
Scroll down to "Items in this collection" to access the related learning paths.

And if your Employer is part of the Microsoft Enterprise Skills Initiative,
you can book a 4-days online course, delivered by Microsoft, for free and don't forget to use the offered
Practice Exams as final step before taking the actual exam.

It's also important to get some Hands-On experience if you not already working with Azure on a regular basis,
otherwise it's hard to pass questions about CLI or PowerShell commands, necessary steps and order that need to
be performed to achieve a specific result or fill in blanks in ARM Templates and other interesting type of questions.

The Microsoft Course includes access to a Lab Environment, all labs are published on
Github if you wanna run
them in your own Azure Subscription.

And last but not least, learn about Azure Network as much as you can, it's a large part of the Exam
and getting those Questions right will make the difference between passing and failing.

Summary: Earning Azure Administrator Associate certification validates the skills and knowledge to implement,
manage, and monitor an organization’s Microsoft Azure environment. Candidates have a deep understanding of each implementing,
managing, and monitoring identity, governance, storage, compute, and virtual networks in a cloud environment, plus provision,
size, monitor, and adjust resources, when needed.

Cloud here I come, didn't planned to take the AWS Practitioner so quickly after the Azure Fundamentals, but I was so curious about things that both might have in common as well as the differences, that I couldn't resist. Exam passed and now I'm a proud "AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner" :)

I prepared for this Exam with the great resources Amazon offers (for free) on AWS Skill Builder:

Cloud Essential Learning Plan

AWS Cloud Quest: Cloud Practitioner

Compared to the Azure Fundamentals some deeper understanding about technical aspects was required to pass the Exam. So it's in my opinion definitely worth it and a good starting point, makes further studying for an Associate Certification definitely easier.

Summary: Earners of this certification have a fundamental understanding of IT services and their uses in the AWS Cloud. They demonstrated cloud fluency and foundational AWS knowledge. Badge owners are able to identify essential AWS services necessary to set up AWS-focused projects.

In my opinion every Engineer who's going to Support SLES Server should attend to the Course behind the SPSA Certification.

Unfortunately SUSE only offers it as part of their Partner Program, but most of the Content is public available.

In April I got certified as SUSE Sales Specialist and SUSE Technical Sales Specialist in the
categories SLES, SLES for SAP, SUSE Manager and Rancher.

Overall nine eLearning Courses, each followed by a Online Exam (Open Book), not that hard
but took quite some time to work through all of them.

It helped me to further improve my knowledge about SUSE products and was fun,
I would recommend it to every SUSE Partner to use such training offers, it's worth it.

Besides that, to get a higher Partner Level it's mandatory to hold a amount of Sales,
Tech-Sales and Technical Certifications, also to keep them current.

One of the driver was also to support my employer to reach the SUSE Platinum Partner Status,
glad I could help ;)

IPv6 connectivity is quite important for me, fortunately IPv6 is a first class citizen for my ISP
(Deutsche Glasfaser) and was also available with my previous one (1&1).
So I didn't have to use a Tunnel Broker at home yet to get IPv6 up and running but if I had to,
I would go with Hurricane Eletric and their (free) Tunnelbroker Service.

HE also offer a IPv6 Certification, to test your theoretical
as well as practical knowledge and verify that you are actually using IPv6 at home, your website, mail server and DNS.

There are seven Certification Level:

NewB: Read the primer, be able to answer some quick and easy questions.

Explorer: Verify that you can access an IPv6 website (ours!)

Enthusiast: Verify that you have an IPv6 capable web server that we can connect to and fetch information from. This should be entered as a FQDN and not an IPv6 address.

Administrator: Verify that you have a working IPv6 capable MTA by sending you an email only over IPv6.

Professional: Verify that your MTA has working reverse DNS (ex: dig mx $domain +short ; dig aaaa $mx +short ; dig -x $mxAAAA +short)

Guru: Verify that the authoritative NS for your domain have AAAA records, and respond to queries for the domain (ex: step 1 is dig ns $domain ; dig aaaa $ns | step 2 is dig aaaa $domain @$nsAAAA)

Sage: Check to see if your domain's authoritative NS have IPv6 glue with their listed TLD servers. Meaning the TLD server can directly answer for the host record (ex: dig +trace ns $domain to get the TLD server list then dig aaaa $ns @TLD for the glue).

Source: https://forums.he.net/index.php?topic=304.0

They provide a lot of additional learning material
and have a still quite active community as well.

Sages also get a Free IPv6 T-Shirt upon request,
last batch run was Fri Dec 10 2021, so let's see when mine will arrive :)

Hint: Getting Sage Rank is a mandatory requirement to request HE to remove SMTP and IRC Port Filtering
when using their IPv6 Tunnel, to avoid abuse those are blocked by default, see FAQ.

It Was fun to work through the different level, test my knowledge and validate my IPv6 Setup.
Due to the fact that all my Server already using IPv6, whenever possible IPv6-only, a few in Dual-Stack Mode,
I was able to reach the Sage Level quite fast, no re-configuration of my Services was required to pass all checks.

Exception was enabling TLS v1.2 on my website, limit to v1.3 only was to strict for he.net
to reach my Server and validate my Domain. Also disabling greylisting for sender ipv6@he.net
was helpful to speed things up during verification of my mail setup.

but today I passed the EX342 and earned the 'Red Hat Certified Specialist in Linux Diagnostics and Troubleshooting' Certification!

That's already my second Certification counting towards the Red Hat Architect, let's see if that's something I can achieve within the next year :)

The Exam is still based on RHEL 7, what's probably fine because most of the Topics and Tasks would be more or less identical on RHEL 8.
Was the hardest Red Hat Exam I attended so far, I studied with the RH342 eBook from my earlier RHLS and the Course from A Cloud Guru.

The ACG Course was okay but in my opinion didn't covered the Topics in the necessary depth, I don't think I could pass the Exam with ACG only.
The original Red Hat eBook in combination with existing knowledge and the Hands-On Labs from ACG was a good mix and preparation.

But due to the fact that the "new" RHCE is focusing on Ansible, I can only recommend to prepare additionally with the RHCE RHEL 7 Content!

Summary: A Red Hat Certified Specialist in Linux Diagnostics and Troubleshooting is capable to prevent costly downtime due to system failure and quickly recover failed systems using analysis, diagnosis, and troubleshooting.

Compared to the RHCE with a more or less 100% Ansible focus, EX447 was roughly 50% Ansible in more depth and 50% Ansible Tower.

Today I earned the Red Hat Certified Engineer Certification by passing the Red Hat Exam EX294.

It's the Version 8 RHCE Exam which quite differ from the "old" one by focussing on Ansible.

So during the performance-based Exam you have to create a lot of Ansible Playbooks and Roles to solve the Tasks. It's a tough Exam but fair and preparing for it improved my Ansible Skills a lot, even though I was using Ansible quite often within the last years.

Summary: A Red Hat® Certified Engineer (RHCE®) is a Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) who is ready to automate Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® tasks, integrate Red Hat emerging technologies, and apply learned automation skills for efficiency and innovation.

I passed the Red Hat Exam EX200 today and received my Red Hat Certified System Administrator Certification.

What I really like and what makes the difference is the fact that all Red Hat Exams are performance-based.

That means, you get access to a virtual environment during your Exam and have to perform real-world tasks. There are no Multiple Choice Questions, you actually have to configure those System accordingly. SUSE did something similiar in the Past but change recently to question-based Exams.

Summary: An IT professional who has earned the Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA®) is able to perform the core system administration skills required in Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments. The credential is earned after successfully passing the Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) Exam (EX200).
